Family sessions

When a major change shakes the whole household, the tension is shared among everyone. I support families to recover understanding, calm and the sense of harmony at home after migration, a move or any change that has thrown you off balance.

When does it help?

You may recognise some of these situations

Things don't have to be «very bad» to ask for help. Family sessions help when you notice that something has fallen out of tune and you find it hard to find each other again.

  • Conflicts that keep repeating

The same arguments over and over, without anyone quite knowing how they begin or how to get out of them.

  • Children struggling to adapt

Children who shut down, who are having a hard time at school or who have changed since the move, and you don't know how to support them.

  • A tense atmosphere at home

An underlying tension you feel day to day: silences, irritability, the sense of walking on eggshells.

  • Distance after moving country

After emigrating or changing country, each family member adapts at a different pace and that slowly pulls you apart.

  • Far from your usual support network

With no family or friends nearby, everything falls on you and the emotional weight builds up inside the home.

  • A new stage has thrown you off balance

A move, a new job, the arrival of a child or adolescence have disrupted the balance you had.

The systemic approach

How we work as a family

I look at the family as a whole, not as a sum of individual problems. Often the problem is not your partner, nor your children, nor you: it is a process of adaptation and stress that no one has been able to name. When it is understood, it can be transformed.

  1. First session: understanding what is happening

We sit down to listen to each member of the family and to understand the situation from the inside, without blame. Often the problem is none of you, but a process of adaptation and stress that no one has been able to name.

  2. Agreeing on clear goals

Together we define what you want to recover and where we are heading. I work with direction and concrete goals from the start, so that the process makes sense and you can notice progress.

  3. Working on what sustains the conflict

We intervene on the dynamics and the ways of relating that keep the tension going: how you communicate, what role each of you plays and what has become stuck after the change.

  4. Consolidating observable changes

We keep checking what improves in daily life together and we secure those changes so they last over time, with tools the family can keep using on their own.

What can change

What you can recover at home

I don't promise magic solutions, but I do offer work with direction and observable results. This is what families usually notice as we go along:

Better life together

A calmer atmosphere at home, where you feel like a team again and not people living side by side in tension.

Fewer conflicts

Arguments that stop repeating because you understand what triggers them and learn to handle them in a different way.

Understanding the origin

Seeing clearly where the tension comes from: conflicts have an explanation, and what is understood can be transformed.

Practical tools

Concrete resources to communicate better, set limits with warmth and reconnect after a major change.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about family sessions

  • Do all the members of the family have to come?

Not necessarily. Although we work with the family as a whole, you don't always all need to be in every session. Together we assess who it makes sense to involve at each moment; sometimes we start with part of the family and the rest join in when it makes sense.

  • And if my partner or a relative doesn't want to come?

This is very common and it is not an obstacle. We can start with you or with whoever does want to take the step. When one person changes the way they relate, it influences the whole family dynamic; and often the rest are encouraged to take part later on.

  • What age of children can you work with?

I support families with children of different ages, from childhood to adolescence. I adapt the way I work to each case and sometimes the work is done mainly with the adults, who are the ones who can shift the dynamic at home. We look at it in the first session.

  • Can family sessions be done online?

Yes. I work in person in Pilar de la Horadada, Orihuela Costa, Torrevieja and Murcia, and online for families throughout Spain and Europe. The online format works very well, especially for migrant families or those spread across several places.

Your family can understand each other again

Tell me briefly what you are living through at home and we will find a moment to talk, with no obligation. The first step is putting a name to what is happening.
